XBox Networked on November 15 2002
Microsoft announced on Aug 13th 2002 that their XBox on line gaming service, called XBox Live, will be available on November 15, 2002. This is an announcement that has been eagerly awaited by the gaming community.
This release comes on the one year anniversary of the initial launch of the XBox. The on line system will cost $49.95 and include a voice headset kit plus 12 months worth of gaming time. The system is broadband only because of the high level of graphics involved in games, so players will need a cable modem or other broadband internet connection to use the on line services.
Microsoft plans to release 6 games that are capable of playing on the network. More will follow quickly as the network is up and running. Early releases include:
You know you want to play. Over 25 highly details character models of all races, shapes and sizes. Incredibly fun landscapes! You'll never sleep again!
NFL Fever 2003
Those who loved Madden 2002 will be even more impressed with the gameplay and graphics in this. And now you can play your teams on line against other teams!
A traditional Mech battle where you can customize your mechs, with the awesome graphics the XBox is known for.
Racing, gladiator battles, fun maps and modes. Great fun for the whole family!
UPDATE: By 2009 the XBox Live system has proven itself to be the gold standard of online console gaming. Microsoft did its job well!
