Microsoft announced on Aug 13th that their XBox on line gaming service, called XBox Live, will be available on November 15, 2002. This is an announcement that has been eagerly awaited by the gaming community.

This release comes on the one year anniversary of the initial launch of the XBox. The on line system will cost $49.95 and include a voice headset kit plus 12 months worth of gaming time. The system is broadband only because of the high level of graphics involved in games, so players will need a cable modem or other broadband internet connection to use the on line services.

Microsoft plans to release 6 games that are capable of playing on the network. More will follow quickly as the network is up and running. Early releases include:

Unreal Championship
