Ten months ago, I was talking with actor Nathan Fillion at a press lunch during Booster Event's Flanvention, a convention for "Firefly" and Serenity fans (read reviews here). Somehow, the conversation briefly touched upon the TV show "Lost" when I joked that the only way the show could get any better was if he were to appear on it.
Flash forward to last week when E! Online's resident TV diva, Kristin Veitch, drops the red hot scoop online that Fillion has been cast in two upcoming episodes of this season of "Lost."
I almost choked on the water I was drinking.
Yup, it seems the show will indeed be getting better as the talented Fillion is headed out to Hawaii to guest in a couple of episodes. So which episodes and what character, you say?
Ok, here's what's confirmed via Kristin's posting:
"He will be playing someone from Kate's past. Someone who was VERY close to our beloved Katie -- as in, legally bound and not genetically."
So that could be referring to someone wed to Kate and if you remember from the first season episode, "Outlaws," Kate reveals to Sawyer during a game of "I Never" that she was married previously, though she says the marriage didn't last very long. So Fillion could be playing this ex-husband, but that has NOT been officially confirmed. However, I don't know of many other ways people could be "legally bound" and "very close" without being married.
When will the episodes air? Well, putting the pieces together, I'm going to say the first appearance will be during the sixth episode, which will air in November. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's late night talk show last week, actress Evangeline Lilly, who plays Kate, said Kate's flashback will be the 6th one, the last one before the break. That episode is set to air November 8. The show will then go on a temporary hiatus for several weeks so ABC can air the new series "Day Break" in that same time slot. It will return twelve weeks later, during the February sweeps period with 17 new episodes. I'm guessing the next appearance by Fillion will be during this second batch of episodes.
Fillion is reportedly starting filming this week in Hawaii, so all you Browncoats out there, keep an sharp eye when you're out and about on Oahu.
In the meantime, if you can't wait until November, Fillion's horror film Slither makes it onto dvd October 24 (my film review). He has also wrapped filming White Noise 2: The Light, with Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff, and that will make its way to theaters in early January 2007.
And if you want to see him in person, his only scheduled appearance will be at Flanvention 2, December 8-10 in Burbank, California.
