It's been a year since our guest author Rhonda Cliett introduced www.GroceryGuide.com. I decided to take another look at the service and see what's new, what's improved and what's changed.
GroceryGuide.com is a service based out of Salt Lake City, Utah that compiles all U.S. grocery store sale data in a large database. You can search the database by zip code and store to retrieve sale items for the where you live and shop.
GroceryGuide.com has recently revamped their site (hence the "beta" above their logo). Personally, I found their current sale items a bit more clunky to use than the simple tool Rhonda installed last year, at the bottom of this page. To quickly generate my sale list, I'll probably stick to the tool below.
Still, the main site is worth visiting, for various reasons. A neat little feature of GroceryGuide.com is pricing graphs and product and store reviews. Simply click on "details" next to a sale item and you'll get a pricing graph that shows trends over the last 19 years, as well as reviews for the item and the store having the sale. There don't seem to be a lot of reviews loaded up as yet; I assume this is because the new site is in beta. User-generated content will take a while to get settled.
You should also visit the GroceryGuide.com site to create an account and set up sale alerts. An account requires just an email address and password. Once you're registered, navigate to "My Account" at the top of the page, then "Email Alerts". Simply enter the name of the item you'd like to get on sale, a specific store or all stores in your area, and which day of the week you'd like your alert to be delivered (or simply when the sale begins). This alone will save you tons of time and money!
I admit I was a bit disappointed to find that Super Wal-Mart is not one of the stores available in my local area. I shop there most frequently for the majority of my groceries because their prices are so low.
Whether you use the tool below or the website itself to list sale items, use the "Rating" column to figure out which sales are best. Using a 19-year price history, GroceryGuide.com assigns 1 to 5 stars to a sale price, with 5 being the best sale price yet.
You can also compare the sales price to the prices in your price book.
Overall, this is an easy-to-use service from GroceryGuide.com that will help you save time and money on your groceries.
To get a feel for how it works, go ahead and enter your zip code in the box below and search the stores in your area to find the current sales. Add items to your list, print or send to your cell phone. Don't forget to visit the site itself to set up sale alerts and print coupons, and watch the savings add up!
