Feng Shui Study Area
Guest Author - Diane Kern

Are your children having difficulty studying? Are they preparing for important tests?
Do you lack that creative spark?

These are problems that feng shui can help with. Ask your self the following questions.

In which part of the house is the study room/office located?
What is the atmosphere of the study room/office?
Where is your desk located in the room?

The general area for study and creative pursuits such as writing is in the southeast section of your home. This applies to everyone. In addition there is a personal study corner based on a person’s birth information. A feng shui consultant can help you find your personal study areas, place your desk and computer for best benefit.

The atmosphere of your study/office should be clean and uncluttered. The colors should be neutral. And there should be no distractions such as television available. Students should not study in their bedrooms as they become tired and want to sleep when they see the bed. Teenagers are always tired and this reminder is often too much to ignore. If they study in the kitchen they may want to snack all the time. So monitor eating habits and provide low calorie snacks.

There are some items traditionally used to enhance a study area such as Chinese ink brushes. These serve as a reminder of the goal you want to attain. In ancient times only the upper classes and government officials would learn to write. The writing brush is therefore a symbol of attaining a scholarly position. Hang four brushes, from red string by the handle, in a row on the southeast wall.

The location of your desk and the direction it faces can have a beneficial effect. You will want to know your four good directions. This helps you determine the placement of your desk. Your back should be to a solid wall and not exposed to the room or door.

Make sure the desk is uncluttered and has sufficient surface area for the projects you will be doing. Glare is another issue. Have adequate lighting and make sure windows have blinds or curtains that can be closed to improve vision. The computer should have the proper placement to avoid strain on your back, shoulders, arms and wrists. Keep all the materials you need for your projects or study close at hand and keep them organized.

Bookshelves can become a nightmare of disorganization. Don’t use them as a quick place to drop things that will be filed later. Somehow they never do get filed or returned to their proper place. The edges of the shelves create a sha (negative energy). To correct this, put doors on your bookcases or fill each shelf with books brought all the way to the edge of the shelf. Also organize your books by size.

So take a few moments to examine the areas in question. Then get studying and get creative.
