Amy Winehouse is Dead
Although saddened, no one is surprised by the death of singer Amy Winehouse. According to Sky News, she was found dead at her London apartment this afternoon. The 27-year-old singer had battled drug and alcohol use over the course of her career. During the past few years, many of her concerts were cancelled, and her performances were criticized, and yet most of her fans stood by her side every minute of the way.
I read a statement that said "Police say they’re treating her death as unexplained." Really? With that much alcohol addiction and drug abuse for so many years, they can't figure out why she died?
Whenever I read about talented celebrities taking a nose dive with their life, I often wish I could walk into their home, sit on their couch and have a heart-to-heart talk with them. Are they surrounded by "yes-men" who don't give them tough love or do they simply refuse to hear the good advice from loved ones who truly care about their well-being? It's all so very sad. Lindsay Lohan, are you listening? You could be next.
Hollywood has been sharing their thoughts and paying respects via social media all day today. Dr. Drew, who often tries to counsel with celebrities who struggle with substance abuse, wrote on his Facebook page "SO sad, another lost to addiction. A reminder this is often a fatal condition. Recovery is possible, but sadly not for Amy Winehouse."
Singer Rihanna Tweeted "I am genuinely heartbroken about this #DearAmy."
British model, Kate Moss, Tweeted "R.I.P. Amy Winehouse, So upset, my heart goes out to her, sad to see such talent vanish from the world #RIP."
Vampire Diaires writer, Kevin Williamson, Tweeted "Amy Winehouse lived longer than I expected. Is that awful of me? I'm sorry, Amy #RIP."
Moby, who was with Amy Winehouse during her contraversial performance in Serbia, apologized on Facebook, saying "After our show in serbia I wish I'd been able to help amy. I'm sorry."
Amy's last Tweet was posted on July 7th, saying "Make sure you all download your copy of #GoodForTheSoul. The incredible album by the amazing @dionneofficial. OUT NOW!"
We all wish Amy had done more good for her soul. Hopefully, her sad death will be a wake-up call to other starletts out there who are struggling with similar addictions.
