As you know a candle may be embellished in many different ways. Previously we have discussed various botanicals, such as dried flowers, leaves, sticks and twigs. Bamboo can be used to embellish the outside of a standard pillar candle and that's what we're going to do today. This project is easy to accomplish and will take a minimal amount of time to finish but it will also add a different touch compared to other pillar candles.
Your list of supplies is short and simple since you'll be using one of your own previously made pillars. If you do not already have a pillar candle made, please read the article titled, "Your first pillar candle." This project can be done with a store bought pillar if you choose to, but I'm sure you would rather use one of your own.
Supplies:
Pillar candle
Bamboo: thin garden cane
A cutting board
Small hacksaw
Spatula
Wax glue
Measure bamboo against the height of your pillar candle. Be sure bamboo lengths are the same height as the candle sides.
Using a hacksaw, cut bamboo to measured length on a cutting board. Cut the bamboo halfway through each side and snap the cane across the cuts. Use the first bamboo cut to measure the remaining lengths. Cut enough bamboo to go around entire pillar candle.
Using a spatula, apply wax glue to one side of bamboo length and press firmly onto your candle. Be sure to keep bamboo straight. Make sure bamboo does not extend past base of candle or the candle will not stand level.
Continue to apply bamboo side by side until entire surface of the pillar candle are covered. Avoid any large gaps. Allow glue to set for about an hour before handling freely.
