Asherah gave birth to seventy gods. Ashtar Male version of Ishtar/Astarte in Canaan, Venus Star, her son. When Baal was killed by Mavet, Asherah had Ashtar declared king. Not big enough to fill the throne, he resigned. Other titles are Malik (the King), Abimilki and Milkilu. Atik Calf of El. Enemy of Baal slain by Anath. Baal Canaanite Ruler God, God-force. Baal, (a title meaning 'Lord') and Yam-Nahar origonally competed for kingship. El judged the matter and decided in favour of Yam. Yam reigned over the Gods in tyranny, none thought they could defeat him. They sent Asherah to beg him to let up. Baal, enraged, decided to defeat him and did so in the end. Baal is also a Storm God, (source of his proper name Hadad) and a fertility god like Tammuz. Dagon is his father. Baal lives on Mt. Zaphon and is known as Rapiu (Shade) during his summer stay in the underworld. Baallat Patron Goddess of Gubla, fertility Goddess Dagon A God of vegitation, corn in particular, father of Baal. El Father of the Gods, Creator of Created Things, The Kindly, Kodesh. Asherah is his wife. The Goddesses Shachar and Shalim (dawn and dusk) are born when a young El marries both Asherah and her friend Rohmaya. The family builds a sanctuary and lives in the desert for eight years. El wears bull horns on his helmet and resides at "the Source of Two Rivers" upon Mt. Lel. Elsh Steward of El and Baal's house. His wife is steward of the Goddesses. Eshmun God of healing, great God of Sidon. Gapen Messenger of Baal whose name means vine or field. Helel The Light Bringer, the Morning Star, Son of Shachar. Kosharoth The Wise Goddesses. Goddesses of childbirth, weddings, fertility, sometimes symbolized as sparrows or swallows. Also known as Daughters of the Cresent Moon, daughers of Yarikh. Koshar U Khasis "Skillfull and Clever". Craftsman of the Gods., Chousor and Heya. They built the palaces of both Yam-Nahir and Baal. He also fashioned the two clubs that Baal used to defeat Yam. Koshartu Wife of Koshar. Lotan Lotan is a seven headed serpent defeated by Baal with the help of Mavet. Anath also claims a role in the defeat of the Serpent. Also known as Tannin or Leviathan. Marah Merciful Goddess of the Waters, twin sister of Anath, daughter of Asherah. Mavet God of Death (the meaning of his name) and Sterility. He holds the scepter of bereavement in one hand and of widowhooed in another. His jaws and throat are described in cosmic proportions. A son of El. After Baal defeated Yam, he then sent a message to Mavet demanding that he keep his kngdom in the underworld, (city of Miry). Mavet was enraged by this and a battle ensued, in spite of the fact that Baal became afraid of Mavet and tried to back down. Mavet defeated him and held him in the underworld until Anath found and defeated Mavet. As Mavet did not actually die, neither defeated the other, but Mavet did eventually relent and proclaim Baal King of the Gods. Melqart God of the Sea, King of the City, the Hunter, Fire of Heaven. Patron god of Tyre and its' monarchy as well as that in Carthage. May have been a dying and rising vegetation god associated with the sacred marriage like the Sumerian Dumuzi and ritually immolated in an annual festival. Nikkal Consort of Yarikh, Goddess of the fruits of the Earth, daughter of Hiribi. Pidray Girl of Light, daughter or consort of Baal. Qadish-U-Amrar Two messengers of Asherah fused into one God who dredges up deligths to entertain her guests from the sea with a net. Rahmaya A goddess impregnated, along with Asherah, by El. The Goddesses then gave birth to the twin gods Shahar and Shalem. Radmanu Or Pradmanu, minor servitor of Baal. Rephaim "Shades", Underworld Deities that hey move in chariots, on horseback, and on wild asses. Resheph War God, Lord of the Arrow, destroys men in mass by war and plague, porter of the sun Goddess Shepesh. He is also called Mekal (Annialator). Shachar "Dawn". God of dawn, beginnings. Either a son of Asherah, or of Rohmaya. According to Isaiah 14:12, He is the father of Helel (or Lucifer) the Light-Bringer and Morning Star. Shalem "Dusk". God of sunset, contemplation of day. Tanit Lady of Carthage, face of Baal Yaweh Yahweh was, for a short time, part of the Canaanite pantheon. He was a Son of El; and part of the court of El as cupbearer along with Baal. Later, as the National God of Israel, Yahweh was equated with El, and Asherah became his wife. A stone of the Temple at Jerusalem was found dedicating it to Yaweh, consort of Asherah, in fact. Yam-Nahar Primordial Waters defeated by Baal. The name means Sea-River. Originally given kingship by El, he was a tyrant finally defeated by Baal. He may be an aspect of Lotan. Yarikh Moon God, illuminator of stars, lamp of Heaven, lord of the Sickle, father of the Kosharoth. Patron God of Qart-Abilim. Ybrdmy Daugher of Baal. Yellow Ones of Mavet Mavet's henchmen, slain by Baal when he is ressurected from defeat by Mavet. Zabib "Flies", Enemy of Baal, slain by Anath. There's an obvious relationship between the Demon and and Baal Zabib (Lord of the Flies).
