Many changes over the years, particularly in the economy have made it necessary, among other things, for dual household incomes. With increasing gas prices, cyclical layoffs and outrageous insurance premiums, many individuals are finding it difficult to find even the smallest satisfaction keeping their dreams alive. So, what’s really going on? Is there anything we can do? Collectively as human beings, is there a way to lessen the sting should the unthinkable turn reality?
When any one small group is given permission to deliver property making decisions, unless this group has well-balanced long-term projected interests in mind, it is only a matter of time before the bough begins to break. As this happens, both finances and benefits will usually hook back around, no matter the cost, to the same people who made the decisions to begin with. As one non-sync ‘specialty provision’ commences, soon another and yet another furthers damage already created. Moral boosting speeches, large year-end parties, title promotions (those without financial backing) and further empty promises may be delivered extending the efforts of already frustrated workers knee-deep in debt, working 2 and sometimes even 3 jobs just to pay whatever health plan they can’t afford. However, there are several things we can do to put the power of control back where it belongs.
Beginning with perception, we need to assess, for a time when the economy was strong, it benefited both employee and employer. Many of us were happy and eager for the employer not only to make the decisions, but optimistically felt we would benefit in some fashion with what it was being presented, especially health plans. No problems, right?
Many are now finding those “best interest plans at heart” evaporating as the economical chips fall where they may. In fact, some people are finding in order to even accept a job these days, they are first required to designate a percentage of their gross income back into vesting and cafeteria plans which can be difficult to retrieve or even forfeited altogether should the employee be released from their position.
As vast amounts of money are being stripped from already strapped paychecks many are simply going without, giving up or finding supplemental plans which may help cover some costs but may also leave more progressive and extensive illnesses fending for themselves. So, what to do?
As each passing year goes by, gestures made by politicians, corporations and insurance companies lose significance. Is it possible or even purposeful to even try when it feels as if no one is listening? Absolutely!
Numbers are key! As more and more people come together movement will be seen as well as feedback in what does and doesn’t have possibilities. Political avenues in some fashion may gain momentum, especially during election years, but more likely than not it will be public information in the first place making the most difference. Among other things, we will see studies in homeopathy, herbal medicines (hence the word biochemical), teas and alternative healing taking over a portion of the medical field. It will be less expensive and informative as people begin understanding their own illnesses and taking control as they see for themselves these techniques, when properly utilized, having both progressive and noninvasive results.
So, is there anything we can do? Absolutely! Because the resilience of the people is unmeasurable and uncontained, going without prompts capabilities and avenues we may never have initiated otherwise. Change of perception, outside of the box thinking, networking and confidence in numbers, along with one very courageous set mind of thinking will be the ticket for families having their own best interests at heart!
