When I think of a winter wedding I think of magic and snow and a mystic feeling. I would guess that over half of the bride’s wish for a June wedding, one of the most popular months during the year to host a wedding. But I like the idea of a winter wedding. It’s romantic, not only the theme, but the colors and the possibilities. Here are my ideas for planning your winter wedding.
Colors:
Blues
Whites
Silvers
Reds
Greens
Flowers:
Amaryllis
Anemone
Evergreen
Forced bulbs
Paper-white
Poinsettia
Calla lily
Carnation
Freesia
Gardenia
Lily
Orchid
Ranunculus
Rose
Stephanotis
Invitations:
Blue, silver, white, red, or green paper. Be clever, choose a snowflake shape invitation or a snowmen or penguin shape invitation. Could use silver paper with blue lettering or blue paper with silver lettering. Or green paper with red lettering or vice versa.
This website is my favorite for invitations not only for winter, but for all weddings: http://invitationsbydawn.com
Ceremony Decorations:
Most Churches will already have a tree up and decorated. If not you can request one, if you desire one. Christmas lights can decorate the pews or the chairs. If your colors are blue and silver you can have either color runner up the aisle. The altar you can choose to have decorated with Christmas lights, white, or colored. Or you can use a selection of winter flowers.
Attire:
Groom should wear a black or brown tux with a tail. The bride should wear a white, long satin gown, and a fur wrap would set the dress off. The bridesmaids should wear crystal blue or silver colors, unless you decide to go with the traditional red and green theme. When you think of winter you think of snow and ice. Diamonds equal ice.
Food and Beverages:
Hot chocolate
Warm Pumpkin soup
Eggnog
Spiced alcohol beverages
Roast would be divine for a main dish
Fish, such as, sea bass and haddock are in fine condition during the winter season
Chesses, such as, Stilton and Vacherin
Wedding Cake:
An all white or blue cake decorated with snowflakes
Castle shape cake
Decorations:
Ice sculptors
Decorate the reception with small and large Christmas trees.
Try to find a reception hall with blue walls. Then use a floor covering in silver and white centerpieces with glowing candles.
Hang snowflakes from the ceiling and have fake snow throughout the room
Favors:
Christmas ornaments
Snow globes
Christmas cookie cutters with a copy of your favorite cookie recipe attached
Centerpieces:
Gingerbread houses
A red and green candle centerpiece with Poinsettias
Snowmen or Penguins
Crystal pieces filled with water and floating white candles
Winter fruit
These are a few ideas, but the possibility for a winter wedding is endless and romantic. Good luck. Remember have fun! If you have any comments or questions please contact me through the forum or through my contact information.
