EducatingJane.com Review EducatingJane.com is one of the coolest websites I’ve recently come across and I’m so glad I’ve found it at the beginning of the school year. This site is “dedicated to helping girls grow with self-esteem, self-awareness, and involvement in the world” and declare that “personal development is our highest priority...girls should be free to make educational and career decisions based on their individual interests and abilities.” Isn’t that what we all want for our daughters? EducatingJane.com is there to bring about all that and more. Nearly ten years ago the site started as a resource page of links to assist female engineers and today it is a suite of resources for girls, parents and educators. They’ve won numerous awards, including Best Engineering Site for Girls (Nov. 2002 by WIEO.org), and have been recognized for their contribution as a national site for girls at over 700 websites. There is fun for everyone including a shop for girls, hey, a girl needs to shop, and a most impressive bookshop for girls. If you are ever in need of a gift idea for your daughter, another young woman in your life, or a teacher or mentor, this is the book shop for you. It is a resource of books on successful women for inspiring successful women and the best in educational resources. There is also an area on programs for girls. It is not just for existing programs, it offers up great ideas on programs you can start for girls. This section is a highly recommended read for parents and educators and is a nice compliment to the list of organizations that EducatingJane.com endorses. The Study Hall feature covers an extensive subject list for science, math and technology along with other areas of study. They also have links to areas by age groups for pre-school, K-7 and 8-12. I thought the subject list was cool since next to each study link there is a link to a woman recognized in each field of study. There are surveys to take and a “This Month in Women’s History” feature. Many other features make this site worth the visit as well including News About Girls, Become A Successful Woman, Mentors, Parenting Girls, information on Women’s Studies and Scholarships for Girls, a Girls Only area and Journals by girls. Visit EducatingJane.com with your daughter. Familiarize yourself with the site and don't forget to share with friends, family and your daughter’s teachers.
