Moisturizing Your Body

Moisturizing your entire body is an often neglected step. It’s important to do so, because your skin is the biggest organ in your body and having it feel scaly and alligator like is avoidable.

No time –you’re too busy? You’d be amazed how easy it is once you incorporate it into your daily routine.

The best time to moisturize your body is right after your shower. The reason is your body is freshly cleaned, dead skin cells have been washed away and your skin is ready to have its thirst quenched with your favorite moisturizer.

The key here is not to totally dry off. Once you step out of the shower, pat your skin so you are not dripping water but you are not completely dry either.

Right after you shower may not be convenient for you. If that’s the case than I would recommend body moisturizing either first thing in the morning or right before bed. The key here is to make this a habit so incorporate it with one of the routines you already have in place such as after you brush your teeth or right after you take off your make-up.

There are no set rules on how to apply your moisturized and where to begin; however it does help to break your body up into sections.

The sections I’ve broken it up into are: calves, thighs, torso front, torso sides, arms and back. I like to start at my calves and work my way up. I find the most difficult area to be the back but with a little practice you can mange that too.

Wherever you decide to start you should pay attention to the areas that tend to be the driest: elbows, knees and with me for some strange reason the calves.

How much should you use? It all depends on the product you are using. You want to moisturize your body enough to prevent dryness but not to the point where your slipping around everywhere.

Currently I like Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning. With this product a little goes a long way. I found that a ½ a teaspoon for each body section is enough except for the torso front and back, those sections 1 teaspoon is enough and leaves my skin soft as ever. This lotion, although it is deep conditioning is also very lightweight. If you are using a richer cream less may be necessary.

You'll notice after following this rouotine for a few days, moisturizing your body will become second nature to you!
