The Hippest of the Hip-Pregnancy and Baby Products
Guest Author - Maryn Leister

I'm taking a break this week from all serious pregnancy topics so I can indulge my readers with reviews of some super-hip, fun pregnancy and baby products. Check them out!

Crib Rock Couture

Despite the fact that I am not a Hollywood celebrity (or any celebrity for that matter) it was fun to sample some of these high-end kids clothes. These T-shirts are sized for babies through teenagers, and all made of really soft cotton (Supima cotton to be precise, which admittedly I have never heard of). Anyway, these shirts are super-cute, and super-trendy, so if you like that kind of thing you might consider these for gifts-actually, they'd make really cute gifts for the siblings of a new baby. The concept centers around nursery rhymes, each shirt with an excerpt of a rhyme made “current”. These shirts are high quality, but as they should be for being pricey, in my opinion. If I ever need an extravagant gift, I'd consider it. But watching my 2-year old son race around the yard in his new shirt (which is pure white, mind you), I realize that I am caring way more than I like about keeping that shirt clean.

Diapees and Wipees

This company makes hip “wallets” for lugging around diapers and wipes. The patterns one can choose from are very cool, and the product itself is very high-quality. It's a great idea, and the pouch I received is black and white city-stylish without being too obnoxious. My biggest problem is that I won't be able to try this out any time soon, and not because I don't go through a ton of diapers a day, either. It's so cute, but unfortunately not compatible with cloth diapering. It's too bad, because the price is right (about $15 for one) and I'd love to give them as gifts, but people with babies in my “circle” really only do cloth. So, here is a plea to this startup for making one just as cute and hip for those of that care about the earth (and what goes on their babies' bottoms) but don't like lugging around diapers anymore than our disposable diaper carrying counterparts. And maybe I will find another use for this adorable bag in the meantime.

Blessence Maternity

I love supporting stay-at-home moms who come up with cute or useful pregnancy products, and ShaeLyn Werner is no exception. She's a mom of 6, a designer and the founder of this company which strives to add some “class” to the line of maternity t-shirts out there. The shirts are soft cotton, fitted, and bear sayings such as, “Blessed Baby”. I'm all for flaunting being pregnant in a tasteful way, and these shirts do just that. The best part of this company is that it seems founded on a real principle. There are tons and tons of pregnancy products out there, all competing for the latest magazine spread or celebrity endorsement. These shirts may very well prove to be no different (seems they have already been spotted on Hollywood folk), but I do like how they were created with the intention of encouraging women to “think positive” and be “thankful for the miracle growing inside” of them. That is a message I can relate to, and a wonderful message to have as the foundation for a company appealing to pregnant women. For that reason, I would totally buy one of these shirts for my pregnant sister, or any close pregnant friend. So much of the pregnancy process focuses on “the baby” (see above product reviews!) that it is refreshing to see a product just for mamas, that will hopefully make them feel beautiful and special.
