Excel Formulas and Functions – A Proficiency Series

This course provides a thorough treatment on how to use Excel's built in Functions to create formulas in your Worksheet. It assumes that the student has a basic level of skill in Excel. Concepts covered in the course include but are not limited to: • Mathematical operators recognized by Excel • Order of Mathematical Operations (how Excel calculates a formula) • Types of formula cell referencing (Absolute, Relative, and Mixed Cell Referencing) • Creation of Named Ranges including use of them in formula creation • Use of the Function Dialog Box including function selection and context sensitive Help features • Use of the Function Pallet to help you construct your formula • Use of various common functions to obtain results. Excel Functions covered in the lesson plan include Sum, Average, Minimum, Maximum, If, Nested IF, VLookup, SumIF, and CountIF. Each concept covered in the course is reinforced with examples and hands on exercises that the student will be required to complete using Excel.

After finishing the course, Excel Formulas and Functions - Proficiency Series , participants will be able to: use mathematical operators and order of mathematical operations to construct formulas that produce correct results; create and use named ranges in formula construction; use absolute, relative, and mixed cell referencing in formula construction; use the formula dialog box and formula pallet to construct complex formulas; use MS Help to get important information on how to use functions in formula construction; use Statistical Functions, Decision Making Functions and other common functions to obtain accurate results.

To be successful in completing this course, you will be required: to complete all 10 lessons as evidenced by the submission of all assignments; to successfully achieve a cumulative point score of 80% or better in each Practice Sets, Challenge Sets, and Miscellaneous assignments. You may complete the assignments as many times as necessary to meet the require score. to participate in a minimum of 5 online class meetings; you will be evaluated on class participation; you will be expected to contribute to the discussion; to post at least 5 messages in the class forum; and to complete all quizzes with a minimum average score of 80%. You may feel that these requirements are stringent, but your success in using Excel effectively is dependent on your understanding the concepts presented herein. You can only gain this competency through hands on practice and repeated application of the techniques. In short, your success depends on your commitment, interest, dedication and desire to succeed.

MS Word –Organizing with Tabs and Tables at Universal Class

MS Word is a powerful tool you can use to get your documents noticed. Whether you are using Word for home purposes, volunteer assignments, for your office work or for creating internet pages, your documents will make a great impression when you use Tabs and Tables to place the perfect emphasis on your written words.
This course provides a thorough treatment on how to use Word's built in tools to structure tabulated data and to design tables in your document. It assumes that you have a basic level of skill in MS Word or other Wordprocessing skills.
Concepts covered in the course include but are not limited to: setting custom tabs and using Leader Characters for effect; converting tabbed text to a table format; inserting, adjusting and drawing tables to suit your specific needs; and formatting text and table structure for eye-catching style. In this course, you will learn techniques that you can use to design your tables in a variety of structures.
