Stay Fit on Your Honeymoon

Guest Author - Kara Williams

You've dieted for weeks to fit in your wedding gown. Why gain back all the weight on your honeymoon? Instead, follow these easy tips to stay fit on your dream vacation!

Book your honeymoon at a resort with a fitness center. If stationary bikes, elliptical trainers, treadmills, weight machines and dumbbells are on site, it's easier than ever to continue working out just like you did at home. Many resort gyms have aerobics, yoga or pool fitness classes, too.

Make fitness a game. What new sport can you and your new husband try each day? From windsurfing, snorkeling, surfing and sea kayaking in tropical destinations to skiing, sledding and snowshoeing in winter climes, have fun sampling different activities that you may not be able to do at home.

Avoid the buffet like the plague. If you're staying at an all-inclusive resort, buffets are the norm. But you can often book evening meals at a la carte restaurants, which means you won't find yourself piling food to sample on your plate at the endless buffets. As soon as you arrive at your hotel, find out how to book these sometimes-hard-to-come-by reservations (sometimes you can only book 3 nights at an a la carte restaurant if you're staying a week; and the most coveted reservation times can go quickly).

If you must visit the buffet restaurant, make smart choices. Just because a food item is there, doesn't mean you need to eat it. Same goes if you've "already paid for the buffet" in an all-inclusive price, or you've shelled out $15.95 for a breakfast spread, and you want to "eat what you paid for." Seek out the oatmeal with low-calorie sweetener, hard-boiled eggs, egg-white omelets or fiber-filled cereal. Avoid the sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy and high-cal waffles.

Skip restaurants all together If your hotel room has a coffeemaker, you can bring instant oatmeal packets and heat up hot water to make easy breakfasts in the morning. You can also pack breakfast bars. Better yet, book a hotel room with a fridge and microwave to keep fruit, skim milk and other healthy items for your first meal of the day. Condominiums give you even more options for cooking in full kitchens.
