Test Strips Recalled

Bayer Recalls Blood Glucose Test Strips in 7 Countrie

Bayer has recalled the following test strips:Contour TS Blood Glucose Meter and have the following numbers have lot numbers that begin with WK followed by the characters 7D, 7E, 7F or 7G and then followed by a series of other numbers and letters. These lot numbers are printed on the bottom of the box and the side of the bottle.

Bayer AG launched a voluntary market recall of Contour diabetes test strips in seven countries due to a manufacturing problems. This may lead to blood sugar readings that are higher than actual glucose levels, according to a statement on the US Food and Drug Administration's website, earlier this month.

These test results may come in 5-17 pct higher than actual blood sugar levels, it said, adding the issue affects only test strips used with Bayer's Contour TS blood sugar measuring device. Be sure to check your brand and type of meter you use. This can result in unsafe test results.

"The root cause of the problem has been identified, and corrective actions implemented including additional quality control measures to prevent recurrence," Bayer said in the statement. Which stated it is recalling the strips as a precaution.

Bayer is recalling the strips in the US, France, Turkey, Austria, India, Korea and Mexico. If you live in these countries check your brand, model and make.

Testing blood sugar helps in tighter blood control and the affects of food and exercise on your blood sugar. Be sure to check with your doctor, pharmacist and diabetes educator to make sure you don't have one of these faulty test strips.

If concerned go to the Bayer website for up to date information and contact Bayer directly for getting replacements for recalled strips. Follow directions to get them replaced and continue to test with the replacement strips.

Details are available by phone at 800-348-8100.

Remember you are the only one who can control your diabetes and testing, not guessing is the only sure way to increase better control.
