Adding pressed flowers to a candle

Adding pressed flowers to a candle
Adding pressed flowers to the outside of a plain candle can create an eye catching piece of any room. The process is simply to glue your pressed flowers in place and then hand dipping your already made candle into melted wax. As usual preparing your workspace is the first step. (See previous article titled, "Preparing your candle making space."

Supplies needed:

Candle thermometer
Dipping vat deep enough to accommodate enough wax to submerge candle being used
Double boiler
Glue pen with sponge applicator
Previously made candle. Pillar or multiple wick candle usually provide more decorative space. If candle was specifically made to be dipped then make sure you've left additional length on the wick to provide ease of grasping as it is dipped.
Paraffin wax - approximately 1/2 pound
Pressed flowers and/or leaves.

Melt wax in double boiler until it reaches 180 degrees F. (Refer to article titled, "Melting your wax." As wax is melting move on to the next 3 steps.

Prepare your dipping vat.

Arrange your pressed flowers on the candle as you desire.

Now using your glue pen, apply glue to the back of the pressed flowers as you apply them. Press your flowers to candle, repositioning as long as the glue is still wet.

After wax is completely melted at the proper temperature, pour wax into dipping vat. Make sure there is enough wax to cover entire height of candle that is being dipped.

With all previous steps complete, now your ready to dip. If your candle was made with the intent to dip, it should have enough extra wick length to tie around a wooden dowel or wire hanger. If that's not the case then using pliers may be the best choice. Remember the wax is very hot and can cause injury so always be very careful.
Grasp wick or wicks of candle and dip entire candle into vat with melted wax in one smooth motion. Remove candle and place on wax paper.

Press down any flowers or leaves that protrude through the wax. Allow wax to set. Now your ready to enjoy your new candle creation.

Feel free to add a scent to your dipping wax to accent the flowers being used.
