Eagle Rock Entertainment announces the release of Plastic Ono Band by John Lennon, part of its classic albums DVD series.
When Lennon recorded his solo debut album, Plastic Ono Band in 1970, he had been in therapy with Dr. Arthur Janoy. Janoy employed unorthodox psychiatric techniques which resulted in controversy within the medical field. Meanwhile, Lennon had been pouring his heart and soul into his music amidst his depression with song titles like “Isolation”, “My Mummy’s Dead” and “God”. After the Beatles broke up in 1970, Lennon spent four months in Los Angeles, undergoing intense therapy that included him confronting suppressed childhood angst such as abandonment and death.
Eagle Rock Entertainment has examined interviews with Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr, and Klaus Voorman, a longtime friend of Lennon. The entertainment company has also showcased several footages for the creation of the latest “Classic Albums” DVD. Within the DVD, viewers can expect interviews under the sections “Remember Remember”, Working Klaus Hero”, “Well Well Well”, “Well Well Well Hidden Praise”, “Class Divide”, “Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band”, and “God is Alive and Living in the Eiffel Tower”.
Viewers can also look forward to performances such as “Mother” live at Madison Square Garden.
The inspirational DVD includes a closer look at the creation of albums, live footage, and interviews with band members and leaders in the music industry. Lennon fans will appreciate that every Classic Album DVD includes vivid images and comprehensive interviews to reveal the effort and magic that went into making this solo album.
Lennon’s solo debut album was recorded at the same time as Yoko Ono’s debut solo album, hence the title Plastic Ono Band. Just a year before the solo album, in 1969, Lennon and Ono had formed a band comprising many musicians that were also used in both their solo albums.
In 2000, Q Magazine ranked John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band at number 62 in the100 Greatest British Albums Ever list. Only three years later, the album was placed at number 22 in their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
In 2006, Time Magazine ranked the album as one of the best 100 albums of all time.
The solo album expresses much of Lennon’s internal conflicts, namely that of his mother. However, the album also suggests Lennon still searches for eternal truths with singles like “Love” and “God”.
Fans can definitely expect an extremely personal side of Lennon both in the solo album and the Classic Album DVD.
