This bird is known by a few different common names. They can be called owl finch or bicheno finch or double barred finch. The scientific name is Peophila Taeniopygia Bochenovii. They are very pretty birds, even though they do not have bright colours.
They are one of the smaller finches that originate in Australia. They do well in a community aviary with a selection of other finches as well as some the more docile parakeets (not budgies).
The male sings a soft little song and the female has some quiet little beep sounds, so they are certainly not noisy litle birds.
