Come Fly with 'The Voice' in Sinatra
Guest Author - Lorna London Sloukji

The 1992 release of TV mini-series, Sinatra, into a collector’s edition DVD won a Golden Globe Award for Best Made for TV Movie in its year of release. The DVD was released just last month, as a two-disc biography of Frank Sinatra.
Sinatra’s youngest daughter, Tina Sinatra, the executive producer of the mini-series and award-winning director, James Steven Sadwith generated an excellent rendition of Sinatra’s dynamic life story.

Personally approved by Sinatra himself, the film showcased many of his personal experiences, both made extremely public during his career and those that may have surprised his fans.

The film begins with Sinatra’s childhood in 1925 Hoboken, New Jersey, and chronicles his rise in the 1940s through hardships in the 1950s, his comeback in the late 1950s, and his status as one of the most acclaimed singers of the 20th century in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

Throughout his life, Sinatra had several stormy and passionate romances, namely his second marriage to actress, Ava Gardner. His other two marriages—his first to Nancy Barbato and his third to actress, Mia Farrow were also featured in this biographical film.

Starring Philip Casnoff as Frank Sinatra, Gina Gershon as Nancy Sinatra, Olympia Dukakis as his mother, Dolly Sinatra, and Marcia Gay Harden as Ava Gardner, the film presents a stellar cast who all delivered outstanding performances.

The film boasts excellent cinematography including many close-up shots of Casnoff, eliciting an intense emotional connection between him and the viewer. Other notable shots of the film include the swarms of women waving pictures of Sinatra and chasing his limousine outside a theatre and a montage of historical images during Sinatra’s career such as Pearl Harbor.

‘The Voice’—one of Sinatra’s nicknames resided powerfully throughout the film with a beautiful soundtrack. The amazing tracks featured in the film include:

1. Where the Blue of the Night (Meets the Gold of the Day)
2. Temptation
3. All or Nothing at All
4. Shake Down the Stars
5. Without a Song
6. Street of Dreams
7. I’ll be Seeing You
8. I’ll Never Smile Again
9. Sing, Sing, Sing
10. Where or When
11. Stormy Weather
12. Our Love Affair
13. I Fall in Love Too Easily
14. The Hucklebuck
15. Fairy Tale
16. Lover Man
17. I’m a Fool to Want You
