Polly Wants a Poem! - Review
book by Bob Morrow

Polly Wants a Poem is a read-aloud picture book for your parrot. It is along the line of a children's book, but designed with parrots in mind.

The book has a lot of bright colours, with pictures of parrots on every page. It features several different parrots, so each page is a surprise as you turn onto the next page.

The poems are kind of silly, and are short enough to keep their attention, just as a child based silly poem would appeal to a child. You should read in an excited voice, while showing your bird the pictures, and I know that my Congo African Grey Parrot, Jewel enjoyed looking at the pictures and listening to me read.

As I turned each page, Jewel would be watching and she would just say “OH” as she saw the bird on the next page. A few times, I caught her talking along as I read and I am pretty sure that after a few more times, she will be reading on her own.

The cost of the book is less than the cost of a good bird toy and unless you leave it in your parrot's cage (which I hope you won't), it should last a lot longer than a toy.

The pictures all come with the birds' names, who they live with and a little bit of information about the species, so the humans will find the book informative as well as a fun way to spend time with your bird.

Polly Wants a Poem is available from The Alex Foundation and a portion of the proceeds is being donated to the foundation.
