The top selling album of all time remains Thriller after all these years. When Thriller was released in 1982, Michael Jackson was already an enormous star in the rock world. Together with his brothers, Michael Jackson was the a member of the popular Jackson 5, contributing such hits to the world as ABC and I'll Be There. Though he was the youngest of the five Jackson brothers in the group, Michael was the breakout star.

The 1979 album Off the Wall was a major hit for the solo Michael Jackson. More than 20 million copies of Off the Wall have been sold since its release. It won Michael Jackson a Grammy and was later included in the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2003, Rolling Stone listed it at number 68 out of the best albums of all time.

After this album the world may have been prepared for more hits from Michael Jackson, but no one was prepared for the monster hit that Thriller became. With more than 50 million copies sold, it remains the top-selling album in the world. When it was released in 1983, seven songs were released as singles from the none-song album. All seven of those singles were top 10 hits. At the peak of its popularity, the album was selling one million copies each week.

The single Thriller became even more popular with the release of the music video. The Thriller video is the most popular music video in the world with more than none million copies of the video sold.

Thriller remains the most popular album in the world, and has experienced a resurgence in sales since the death of Michael Jackson on June 25.
