Introducing Windows 7
As you have probably heard Micro

As you have probably heard Microsoft is releasing a new version of its operating system called Windows 7 which was released in October 2009. This version of Windows is being touted as the best version of Windows to be released to date.

This article explores some of the new or improved features of the Windows 7 operating system. This is not a detailed explanation of each but a quick overview of functionality of the new features.

Features of Windows 7:

HomeGroup:

The HomeGroup feature allows users to share files and printers with other computers running Windows 7 in your home network. Sharing a file easy via the Share with menu and is protected with a password.

Taskbar:

Anyone who has ever used Windows is familiar with the taskbar which has been enhanced in the newest operating system. Some of the new features include organizing the icons by dragging to desired location, the ability to pin an application anywhere on the bar and a thumbnail preview of open windows.

Jump Lists:

The jump lists feature is a new feature and Windows 7 that allows the user to “jump” or go to documents, pictures, websites or files that you use each day. What is listed on the Jump Lists depends on the program, for example, the Jump List for Internet Explorer 8 lists the most viewed websites for that user.

Action Center:

The Action Center allows the user to customize how they receive alerts or messages from the operating system. This stops the annoying pop-up windows from appearing every time there is an update or issue with the system.

Windows Touch:

If Windows 7 is used on a touch-screen PC then the user can browse through content using your fingers and the touch-screen. In addition, the user can zoom or right-click by using the proper finger stroke or sequence. This new technology is called multitouch.

Snap:

Snap allows the user to resize open windows by dragging the edges of the open window. The window resized depending on where the window is dragged.

Though a partial listing of the new and improved features of Windows 7, this article should provide a basic overview of some of enhancements of the new operating system. As the launch date approaches additional information about the operating system will be provided. Stay tuned!
