Tweening Movie Clips Together in Flash

Tweening Movie Clips Together in Flash
For the third part of the animation, we will use 28 frames for the motion tween that drops the envelop off the stage and enlarges the card. Let's drop the EnvFront2_1 movie clip group. Open your project into FlashR CS4.

  1. On Frame 102 of the EnvFront2_1 layer, we have already added a Keyframe. Right-click on the EnvFront2_1 movie clip and choose Create Motion Tween from the pop-up menu. This makes Frame 102 the first frame in our tween span. Now expand the tween span to Frame 130 and drag the EnvFront2_1 group downward until it is off the bottom of the stage. Lock this layer.

  2. Working upward on the Timeline, click on Frame 130 on the Thumbnail1_1 layer to expand this layer to the new end of our animation by adding a blank frame. Repeat this for the EnvBack2_1 layer.

  3. Go to Frame 102 on the EnvBack2_1 layer and add a Keyframe. Right-click on the EnvBack2_1 movie clip and choose Create Motion Tween. Drag the tween span to Frame 130. On Frame 130, drag the EnvBack2_1 movie clip off the stage, placing it in position on the top of the EnvFront2_1 movie clip. Test your animation to be sure that the EnvFront2_1 and EnvVBack2_1 move together as they fall from the stage.

  4. Toggle along this tween span until the envelope has just cleared the thumbnail. In my animation this is Frame 112. Right-click on the thumbnail and convert the graphic to a symbol. Name the movie clip “Thumbnail1”. In the Properties panel, give this movie clip an instance name of “Thumbnail1_1”.

  5. On the Thumbnail1_1 layer, add a Keyframe to Frame 112. This will be the first frame of the tween that will enlarge the ecard thumbnail. Right-click on the movie clip and create a motion tween.

  6. Move the pointer along the Timeline to Frame 130. Use the Free Transform tool and hold down the Shift key while you enlarge the thumbnail to full size of the stage

  7. Test your movie. I decided that the enlarging of the ecard was too fast. In order to slow it a little, I expanded the tween span to Frame 150.

  8. Test your movie again and save your file. In the next tutorial, we will add the ActionScript that will load the real ecard into the Flash movie.
