Even More Laptop Accessories and Add-Ons
This is the second

This is the second, and final, article providing ideas for finding the perfect accessory or add-on for a laptop for that special geek on your holiday list or as a gift for yourself. This article continues with some additional ideas for accessorizing a laptop to make working a little bit easier and more enjoyable.

Wireless Router

One of the best features of a laptop, and a main reason many people purchase them, is that they are portable which allows you to work almost anywhere that you want. If your geek wants to be able to work in different rooms around the house while staying connected then a wireless router is just what you need.

A wireless router allows a laptop to connect, via wireless signal, to the Internet almost anywhere in the house. Not every room or location will have a wireless signal as it depends on the layout and configuration of the house or apartment and the location of the router.

Before running out and buying a wireless router check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to see the router they provided for access has built-in wireless. If the router doesn’t provide wireless services some ISP’s will upgrade the router to a wireless version for free so it can’t hurt to check.

Laptop Stand

Though the machine is called a laptop it is not very easy to use while set on your lap nor is it good for the health of the computer as the machine can’t vent properly this way and get can very hot.

Most people either place the computer on a hard surface or in a docking station if they have one for their system. A great alternative is to use a laptop stand which will help the laptop vent properly, allow the user to place the laptop on their lap and it slightly tilts the laptop for more comfortable usage.

Many laptop stands also include a small amount of storage space for holding mice and the such. I use mine to store receipts!

Laptop Bag or Sleeve

Since a laptop is a portable device your geek needs some method to transport the laptop while protecting the machine from damage. Depending on individual taste and style there are several ways to transport a laptop while protecting the system and the first is a laptop bag.

A laptop bag is a bag that is made for holding a laptop and peripherals but it is padded to help protect the laptop during transport. Laptop bags come in all different sizes, shapes, fabrics, colors and styles to fit the personality of any geek!

If your geek already owns a bag (such as a back pack) and just wants to protect a laptop while in a regular bag then a laptop sleeve is the way to go. A laptop sleeve is typically made of neoprene and is available in a variety of sizes for the different size laptops and a enough different colors and patterns to suite any personality.

Spare Battery

A spare battery doesn’t seem like much of a gift but for anyone who has every run out of laptop power and has not had an electrical outlet nearby knows what a lifesaver spare charged battery can be. The best way to determine the battery model for a specific laptop is to call the manufacturer or check their website for parts.

Happy geeking and gifting!
