Whatever is A Maid of Honor to Do.

Guest Author - Sandra Sable

The role of the Maid of Honor varies between brides. For some brides the Maid of Honor is the person they count on to look after everything. You will be given the title Maid of Honor Wedding Planner. I know your chuckling, you have been in this situation. If you have not been a bridesmaid, obviously you are close, that is why you are reading this.

Be honored to be the Maid of Honor. The bride has placed you over anyone else to make sure her special day goes off without any problems. A bridal BFF. I have composed a little bit of a list to kind of guide you through the Maid of Honor maze. The way I look at it you are the bridal party ringleader. You say jump, they say how high.....sorry I got a little carried away.

The first thing to think about, and sometimes gets forgotten. Not all of the wedding party attendants are from the area. Some may come in from out of town. It really is your job as Maid of Honor to see all get acquainted and become part of the wedding, even though they have not been there through the planning. Arrange a get together for the bridesmaids, do this maybe after you have all spent the day trying on your dresses. Arrange a dinner where you can cover all the fine details. If the Bridesmaids are informed they can cover for you just in case you are off doing the multitude of items you will be taking looking after.

Host a shower with the help of the bridesmaids. This includes planning, setting up, and splitting the costs.

Host, plan, and set up the bachelorette party with the help of the bridesmaids.

Pay for your wedding day attire. This includes your dress, jewelry, and shoes. The bridal party is responsible for purchasing their own attire; occasionally a very generous and thoughtful bride will purchase these items for you, but don't bet the farm on it.

Help the bride shop for wedding dress, be honest she is counting on it.

Keep the groom's ring during the wedding ceremony.

Arrange the bride's train at appropriate point in ceremony, if needed.

Hold the bride's bouquet during the ceremony vows.

Arrange the receiving line after the ceremony, if applicable.

Sign the marriage license if needed.

Toast the bride and groom if given an opportunity-this could be at the rehearsal dinner or at the wedding reception.

Help where needed at reception; make sure bride has a chance to eat and drink something.

Just a few things to keep you on track. If you have a few more, hop on over to the forum and let us know. This is Sandra Sable signing off for now. Until next time lets talk weddings.
