Beauty Tips for Mature Women

Guest Author - Connie Mistler Davidson-BellaOnline’s Attention Deficit Disorder Editor

Before an older woman even opens one bottle or jar of cosmetics, she needs to do some basic beauty care. Get enough sleep. Drink plenty of water. Eat a healthy diet. The skin is the palette for cosmetics, and an older woman needs to take care of her skin if she wants a lovely look.

It’s important to get “beauty sleep.” The body repairs its cells during sleep. Sleep makes you feel more vigorous. When an older woman doesn’t get enough sleep, her whole face will sag a bit more. The skin and muscles look less toned. Her eyes may look puffy and have darker circles. Researchers in Sweden showed photos of people to participants in a sleep research study. Participants were shown photos of people who were well-rested. They were also shown photos of the same people after the people were sleep deprived. The photos of people who had received adequate rest were rated as more attractive than their sleep deprived pictures.

While cells are repaired at night, they are hydrated during the day as we eat and drink. The skin has a younger, plumper, and fresher look when it is hydrated. Drinking six to eight glasses of water each day is important for having younger looking skin. This water is in addition to the liquid in your food. Please, limit your caffeine and alcohol intake. Both of these types of liquids tend to dehydrate cells, so if you drink a lot of caffeine and alcohol, you will need to raise your water intake. Be careful not to drink water when it will disturb your sleep with a midnight bathroom expedition!

People who don’t eat a healthy diet often have a pasty color to their skin. As a woman ages, her natural base skin tone tends to change. For some women their skin gets lighter, others have skin that becomes darker and may develop discolorations. Many of us get little veins and redness on our faces. Limit trans fats and saturated fats while increasing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Olive oil can be used inside your body and outside, too! It was one of the earliest cosmetics. Eat plenty of fiber and natural foods. Fruits and vegetables can add nutrients that are essential for beautiful skin. Diet can play a huge role in how red the face becomes.

Once your skin is all that it can be, it’s time to make it even more beautiful! Find a good moisturizer with sunscreen. Sun exposure adds lines to your face and makes it look leathery. Foundation is your next step. There are many choices open to us. One of them is the classic liquid or cream foundations that are used with a powder finish. These may be good options for some women. Brush-on minerals give a sheer natural look. For women with fine lines, the minerals may cake up in the lines. Your wrinkles, and how they react with various foundations, will dictate what base you should put on your face. Add a natural looking blush. Again, this depends on where and how deep your wrinkles are. Unless you are a raven haired beauty like Cher, dark eye make-up is probably not your friend. Design a regimen that accentuates your eyes without giving you a Cleopatra look! Lipstick or lip balm with a color that livens up your skin tones adds a finishing touch.
