Crochet Beachwear

Crochet lends itself to beautiful beachwear items that are sure to turn heads at the beach. Take a look at the free patterns at Crochet Pattern Central for inspiration (link below). Here you will find patterns for bikinis, wraps, cover-ups, totes, hats and mats. There’s enough here to keep you in beachwear all through the summer. Of course you can crochet a bikini, but if your too modest for that here are some other things you can crochet for the beach.

You can easily adapt seasonal summer crochet patterns into beachwear. For example, you can easily wear a crochet summer top in a light weight fiber over a bikini during the day as a cover-up or wear it with a crochet lace shawl in the evening. The very same shawl can also be worn as a sarong during the day at the beach.

Afghan and rug patterns are adaptable, too. A crocheted afghan made from worsted weight cotton would make a durable blanket or mat for beach picnics. You can also turn a light weight, lacey afghan into an attractive sarong. Market bag/tote patterns made from sturdy yarns bag great beach bag totes into which you can pack your crocheted accessories that you’re going to wear or crochet works in progress so that you can crochet at the beach.

Another essential crocheted beach accessory is a wide brim hat for shading your face. A pull on crocheted cap or head turban can also hide beach hair frizz while adding a touch of elegance and style to your beach attire. You can even accessorize with other crocheted items such as crocheted jewelry and ankle bracelets, flower and/or bead embellishments, foot things, etc.

Light weight cotton, bamboo and linen fibers are the best materials to use for beach items. Enjoy making your crocheted outfit for the beach and if you have questions feel free to send an email or post them in the forum using the links provided in the right hand column.
