Gear for Trail Running
Guest Author - Jill Florio

Trail running is an inexpensive, gear-light sport. Here is a list of the the few specialized items of gear you will need.

1. Good trail running shoes. Fortunately there are plenty of sport shoe makers who recognize trail running as its own activity. Actually, I use a pair of "climbing approach shoes", a good alternative, created for similar conditions. Try this website for your trail runner footwear: http://onlineshoes.com/

2. Windbreaker to wrap around your waist. (Ya never know about changes in the weather.)

3. A water bottle to sit in the car and wait for your thirsty return. If you choose to carry water with you, Camelbaks are a life-saver. These water bladders sport sipping straws that you position near your face for easy access. The bladders come in different sizes: one quart to a whole gallon. The most recent Camelbaks offer pockets for keys, snacks, windbreakers and maps. Be careful when you shop to get the minimum size you think you will need, since one of the beautiful things about trail running is the sense of enencumbered freedom!

For ordering these innovative "backpacks": http://www.camelbaks.com/.

4. Colorful ankle socks that absorb sweat and allow total freedom of movement. Woolies are out for this endeavor. A wonderful option are the specialty socks made for cyclists by DeFeet. They seem expensive, but once you run in them, you won't want anything else, ever, to run in (plus the designs are cool..). Their site: http://www.defeet.com/ Or try this discount sock outlet for DeFeet at http://www.ageebike.com/

Trail Running Articles - This fun sport gets you out on the trails in a thrilling way, carrying so little gear you will feel like flying! A great alternative to dayhiking.
