Womenomics - Claire Shipman - A Review
Guest Author - Sharon Michaels

I'm currently reading a book I believe has great economic significance for women and in fact, the overall United States economy. It's called womenomics: write your own rules for success by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay. Interesting and empowering reading for today’s working women.

My first reaction was I should read and review womenomics for an Abundance and Wealth article. Then I heard the authors during an interview on NPR radio and I changed my should to "how quickly can I get my hands on this book!"

If you're a woman who has been working as a small business owner or in the workforce for the last ten - thirty years, you know and feel how things are beginning to change for women politically and economically. Women are seeking, and even demanding, greater pay equity and work/life balance. We aren't trying to emulate men anymore, we are using our own natural female traits and talents to blaze new trails.

That's exactly what this book is about - women blazing new trails financially and in business. Women are now willing, ready and able to take control of their personal, professional and financial destiny. As the authors tell us, “we have the power!”

Two working mothers wrote womenomics. So I found the bent more toward mothers finding balance. But that's not the "heart" of this book. It's not just mothers finding balance, it's about all women finding the ability to work and live the way we choose. It's no longer about men telling us how business should be run, it's now about us running business the way we intuitively know it should be run.

Here’s a look at the chapter titles – some pretty interesting reading:
One: Womenomics 101
Two: What We Really Want
Three: Redefining Success – It’s All in Your Mind
Four: Good-bye Guilt (and Hello No)
Five: Lazy Like A Fox: Work Smarter Not Harder
Six: Value Added: Redefine Your Value, Value Your Time
Seven: Nine Rules to Negotiate Nirvana: How to Change Your Whole Work Deal
Eight: A Womenomics World

Here are two quotes that will help you get the gist of womenomics: write your own rules for success:
"Women top every company's most wanted list. The business world is changing in ways that call for more brain over brawn, and a more inclusive and constructive management style is in high demand."

“We’ve got the power. Companies want us and can’t afford to lose us.”

I believe there is a new consciousness forming and women are leading the charge. This is the time for women to write our own rules for success, abundance and wealth!

I’ve made this the Abundance and Wealth September Book Club Selection because I feel womenomics: write your own rules for success by Claire Shipman and Katty Kay will make for a great discussion on the forum. Let me know what you think.

Here's an off-site link to Amazon.com if you'd like to more about this book or to purchase it: Womenomics: Write Your Own Rules for Success
