Forms

Literary Fiction comes in many forms. Descriptions and examples will appear here.

Form - Novella star
One of my favorite forms of literary fiction is the novella. Starting at approximately 19,000 words (and running as long 40,000 words) it gives the literary fiction reader a little more meat than a short story but requires less commitment than a full blown novel.

Form - Short Stories star
being the literary fiction site it would be remiss of me not to mention short stories as an extremely relevant and vital literary fiction form. This is not to say that all short stories are literary fiction because short stories carry their own genres like books do.

Literary Quotes star
Everyone likes a good quote. Some people memorize them, some people print them out and post them at their desks, some people just like to collect them for the sake of collecting. Looking for a quote? Like to receive literary quotes in your email?

Philosophy and Literary Fiction star
Literary fiction has always been laced with moral philosophy. The intent of the authors is to leave readers thinking long after the final paged has been turned or in some cases teach the reader the authorīs philosophical ideal.

The Chick Lit Controversy star

The Opening Line star
Novels, on average, have about 300 pages. At 250 words a page that would make a 75,000 word novel. Regardless of the abundance of words, it's the first few pages that determine a reader's interest in a story and whether they will

What is Literary Fiction? star
With literary fiction the language is heavier, the imagery lush, the characters detailed and story line thought provoking. Literary fiction by design leaves a deeper impression
