Reproductive Rights and Healthcare
A Day of Solidarity Planned Parenthood has called for a Day of Solidarity, If there was ever a time for solidarity, today is it. Women will gather today at noon on the steps of courthouses across the country to protest the passing of law in South Dakota that bans all abortions except to save the life of the mother.
Dr. Toub Discusses the Safety of at Home Abortions. Dr. Toub is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I had the pleasure of discussing with him reproductive rights and the safety of at home abortions. Elect Susie It seems like every time you turn around someone else is announcing a run for the presidency in 2008. But this announcement caught my attention because Susie Flynn is only ten years old and she is running for president. Fathers and Sons Representative Patrick J. Kennedy, the chief sponsor of the Wellstone Act, a mental health parity bill, has criticized the Senate version of the bill. The senate version of the mental health parity act was introduced by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the father of Rep. Patrick Kennedy. Molly Saves the Day Molly, on her blog, Molly saves the Day, posted instructions for doing an at home abortion. This blog has stirred quite a bit of discussion in the reproductive rights community. I had the opportunity to discuss this controversial post with Molly.
Pro Faith, Pro Family, Pro Choice The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice was founded by clergy and lay leaders from mainstream religions to safeguard the constitutional right to abortion. I had the opportunity to discuss with Marjorie Signer, Communication Director for RCRC, the issues surrounding pro choice and faith. The Prevention First Act In previous Senate sessions, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid has introduced Prevention First legislation. This legislation would work to prevent unintended pregnancies, thereby reducing the demand for abortions. In a Republican controlled Congress, he was never able to pass the legislation.
