Constipation Elimination Program

Constipation Elimination Program
Constipation can be overcome. Here's a twelve-step program for healthy elimination of waste and toxins from the body:
  1. Eat a good diet low in processed foods and high in natural fiber – whole grains, beans and good quality raw fruits and vegetables. (Remember, juicing removes the natural fiber, so eat your fruits and vegetables whole and fresh).

  2. Drink 8 or more glasses of pure water a day. (This does not include drinks like coffee, whole milk or sodas – which are best to cut down on or eliminate from the diet entirely.

  3. Move your body daily. When possible, exercise for at least 30 minutes a day.

  4. Add a high quality daily fiber supplement to your diet. Make sure it’s not laced with sugar and drink plenty of water with your fiber. Most people get around 5 to 10 grams of fiber a day. The optimum intake would be between 30 and 40 grams daily. So, you can see why constipation is so prevalent. A good time to take a nutritional fiber drink is first thing in the morning. If you need a second one. Do it between lunch and dinner.

  5. Keep your colon lubricated with essential fatty acids - especially Omega 3 oils with DHA and EPA. Cut down on or eliminate hard fats such as cheese and animal fats which tend to constipate.

  6. If your digestion is poor, take good quality digestive aids and enzymes with your meals – at least until you improve the natural functioning of your digestion and elimination systems.

  7. When you have a bowel movement, you should be in a natural squatting position. You can do this by purchasing a child’s step stool and using it to elevate your feet when you sit on the toilet.

  8. Make sure you allow time for good elimination habits. In the beginning, you may need to give it more focus and time than later on.

  9. If you have already developed hemorrhoids from constipation, use a natural solution of witch hazel (can be purchased from the drug store) to do a final cleansing wipe after each bowel movement.

  10. Set up an eating, supplement and exercise program that you can take with you when you travel. Good habits have to be routine enough that they can go on the road.

  11. Get healthy. For optimum nutrition, you must supplement your diet. Add a high quality, whole food basic nutritional supplement to your diet. If you take medications that interfere with proper elimination (which many do), either see if you can switch or get yourself healthy enough that you no longer need them. If neither of these are an option for you, then you may need to increase your fiber.

  12. Stress can cause constipation. So, make sure you take the time to relax, maintain a positive attitude and get plenty of rest.
