8 Layer Salad

  • 1 head Iceburg lettuce - chopped into 1" to 2" pieces
  • 1 green bell pepper - finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion - finely chopped
  • 1 can water chestnuts, drained
  • green peas - 1 box frozen , thawed
  • mayonnaise
  • bacon - 6 to 8 slices, fried crisp, then broken into bits
  • 1 pkg.(8 oz.) grated cheddar cheese

Preparation -
Beginning with lettuce and ending with cheese, layer each ingredient in a 9" x 13" baking dish (approximate size). A lasagna pan is also works well. Use enough mayonnaise to spread a generous 1/4" thick layer.

Italian Style 8 Layer Salad - Subsitute pepperoni for the bacon; mozzarella for the cheddar; substitute Italian dressing for all or part of the mayonnaise.
