Be Transformed not Conformed

Be Transformed not Conformed
My memory verse is Romans 12:2.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This is from the English Standard Version.
The bible verse says, Don’t be conformed.”
    From the dictionary: Conform
  • to act in accord with the prevailing standards, attitudes, practices of society or group
  • to be or become similar in form, nature, or character.
  • To comply

Conforming is the path of least resistance. I learned in kindergarten it was easier to blend in than to stand apart. We conform to the people we hang around with, and take on a similar nature and character. We fit in.
Unless we live in a monastery, we are immersed in this world, a world ruled by Satan.
"of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient." Ephesians 2:2
This world's standards are reinforced every day--standards that entice us to be conformed to the ruler of the kingdom of the air. We adopt common language and common values. Before long, we look the same. Bystanders can't see a difference between the Christian and the non-believer.
This was made clear to me, one day when a common four letter word almost popped out of my mouth. I knew instantly where it came from. I'd watched a popular TV program in which the letter word was used repeatedly. The following day, when I ran into a snag in my plans, that word popped into my mind. It's a word I don't approve of, and have never used, but by being involved in the program, I became conformed to the culture.

The verse says, "be transformed"
    Transform
  • Metamorphose- A total change from inside out
  • To change in condition, nature, or character
  • In physics, it means to change into another form of energy

by the renewal of your mind
The key to the transformation is the mind, being made new by spiritual input of Gods Word, prayer and Christian fellowship “ by fixing our attention on God, his Word, his Spirit

"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another." 2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV

To be transformed by the renewal of the mind, I must behold the glory of the Lord. I must intentionally immerse myself in a new culture, through God's word, prayer, listening and being sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

"that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect"
As I become transformed-from the inside out- by the renewal of my mind, I will be able to distinguish God's will. When interacting in this world, as I must, I will see the difference between the lesser standards of the kingdom of the air and God's will, which is good and acceptable and perfect.
