Using Aromatherapy to Navigate Your Way Through Stressful Times

It's been a week of interesting occurrences and trials. Some of us are fortunate enough to have people in our lives that have been there for 20, 30, 40 even 50 years.

So when you hear of things like one of their daughters having a stroke at 36 and another being killed in a car accident when hit by a gasoline truck, how do you pull yourself together and help those who’ve been traumatized? You included!

I always reach for my essential oils. When I work with them it's like having a therapy session with the Creator. If you haven't tried using essential oils for aromatherapy and stress management, you’re missing out on a real treat.

They don't add pounds to your waist like like fatty and sugary foods, nor do they damage your internal organs like cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. One thing to keep in mind when working with essential oils is that you want to work with pure oils, not synthetic oils also known as fragrance oils. While fragrance oils might smell great, they don't have the same properties as essential oils. Neither do they have the same effects.

Here are a few of my favorites that I use to relieve to stress:

Lavender enjoys the status of being the most popular and versatile essential oil in aromatherapy. It is known for its relaxing properties. Add a few drops to a diffuser and you'll set yourself up for an extremely relaxing treatment or meditation.

Although known for it's use in the perfume industry, Lavender is being used by nurses in hospitals in Europe. In France, doctors can actually be certified as aromatherapist.

Bergamot is an amazing essential oil. In aromatherapy, it's used to battle anything from mild stress to anxiety and depression. Bergamot can also be used in skin care products especially when managing eczema and psoriasis.

Chamomile is another favorite essential oil used in aromatherapy for stress management. It's calming and has a soothing effect on your body, mind and spirit.

Rose – Can you believe that there are actually women that don't like the smell of Rose? It's one of the most expensive oils, however it has been proven to worth every cent. It helps in balancing hormones, menstrual cramps and skin problems.

Rose has been known to aid people in stressful moments when they are unable to cope with the loss of a loved one or when they carry sadness in their heart.

Sandalwood – In perfumery it's known as the base note or grounding oil. Sandalwood is known harmonize, calm and quiet emotional volatility.

This is not my complete list, however I call on these oils when I need to settle down for a minute and just Be. Find a away to bring essential oils into your space. Diffuse them, create a room freshener, add them to your bath or shower products. Use the power of their scent to change the space, air and elements around you.

That's it for this week. As always ...
