POWER for Tonight
Assure a peaceful night's sleep by considering these POWER points.
P - Peace
God's word promises to keep us in perfect peace when we keep our minds on the Lord, trusting in him. (Isaiah 26:3)
"Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble." Psalm 119:165
In telling of the coming of the Messiah, the Christ. Isaiah calls him the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
There is no greater peace than what we receive by drawing close to God in prayer and trusting that he hears us. Thank you, Lord, that you promise to hear me and your perfect peace is mine.
O - Overwhelmed by his goodness
I never want to lose the amazement of the goodness of God. Every resistance in me is defeated. I am overcome with gratitude for the goodness of God.
"The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him." Nahum 1:7
He is good. And when I run to God for comfort and safety, he knows me.
"Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!" Psalm 31:19
God's abundant goodness is stored up for me.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever." Psalm 23:6
His goodness and mercy doesn't just follow me, it chases after and pursues me.
W - Wonderful Counselor
Again, speaking of the coming Messiah, the Christ, Isaiah called him Wonderful Counselor.
Wonderful means full of wonder. Incomprehensible. Beyond understanding. The life of Jesus on earth was wonderful. His teaching and miracles were beyond worldly wisdom, yet they caused and still cause life change that is beyond understanding.
E - Eternity
Eternal means everlasting, perpetual, characterized by abiding fellowship with God.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Psalm 90:2
John 17:3 defines eternal life in this way: to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom God the Father sent.
"Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life." John 5:24
R - Rejoice
What better way to end the day and lay down to sleep than to rejoice in the inner peace provided by God, and to be overwhelmed by his goodness. To worship the Wonderful Counselor, and to know the love of God is eternal.
"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Philippians 4:4
