Change Your Mind

There may be times when what you’re thinking about is so negatively charged that you have to just change the subject in order to find a decent thought. That’s perfectly okay. Distraction is a valuable tool. It’s actually a good idea to learn to creatively avoid. To shift your mind away from thinking upsetting, unhealthy thoughts about your body, you can pay attention to enjoying the scenery. You can play with the kids, the dog or the cat. You can listen to ‘feel good’ music, do a ‘feel good’ project or watch a ‘feel good’ movie. You can take charge of your thinking and reach for joy.

It’s possible that you’ve spent a lot of your time feeling bad for so long that it seems normal. You’re used to it. Being in touch with your feelings, having the sensitivity to distinguish how you’re feeling and learning to feel good are all skills that you will develop. Your feelings are your indicator as to how you’re flowing your energy. The main objective is to consistently reach for the best feeling thoughts you can find. By shifting your attention away from the dark heavy thoughts and looking towards the light brighter thoughts you keep your positive creative energy flowing. (More about that later.) Healthy thoughts will attract other healthy thoughts and it will grow and expand. The old negativity will drift away. You’ll eventually get used to feeling good and you’ll love it.


Later, you’ll learn some other techniques and some positive good feeling actions, which can lead you to even better feeling thoughts. But be willing to take one small step at a time in the beginning. Remember, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Happiness is found along the way, not at the end of the road, so enjoy the journey. Every single step that’s moving you in the right direction will eventually get you where you want to go. Your objective is just to keep doing the best you can and put your best thought forward. As you practice, it will become easier and easier. For now, it’s time to let the good times roll.




Process: Put Your Best Thought Forward

During your waking hours, whenever you can, notice how you’re feeling. Unless you’re feeling really good, choose a new, better feeling thought. Choose whatever feels best. The thoughts you pick must be believable to you or you will resist them. Resistance can only hinder your progress. So, take it slow and easy. But be rigorous. You can always find some thought that makes you feel, at the very least, not as bad as you were feeling before. As you practice, you’ll get better and better at this skill and, you’ll therefore begin to feel better and better. Putting your best thought forward is an essential exercise. It’s the foundation for all of the other processes in this book. Feeling good keeps you in the flow of the natural positive life force (more about this later). By consistently choosing the best feeling thoughts, you can eventually learn to feel really good most, if not all, of the time. Mastery can even lead to an extended state of ecstasy and bliss.
