School Rumble

School Rumble
School Rumble is an anime based on a manga written and illustrated by Jin Kobayashi.

There were also two OVA sets released. The first OVA, School Rumble: Extra Class, had two episodes and was released on December 22, 2005. The second OVA, School Rumble: Third Semester, had two episodes and was released between July 17 and September 17, 2008. FUNimation Entertainment holds the North American distribution rights for the two anime series and the first OVA set.

School Rumble is a romantic comedy anime series, and involves a triangle of students in Class 2-C of Yagami High School. The main female in the series is Tenma Tsukamoto, an average second year student. She secretly likes her nice-guy classmate, Oji Karasuma. Tenma struggles to confess her feelings to Oji, but he seems rather oblivious to her attempts.

Meanwhile, Kenji Harima, a delinquent at the school, is secretly in love with Tenma. Harima has difficulty expressing his feelings to her. However, when he does summon up the courage to try, his circumstances end up conspiring against him. The failed attempts of Tenma and Harima to express their feelings to their respective objects of their affection fuel much of what happens over the course of School Rumble.

Even though the three characters involved in the triangle are the main focus of the series, there are supporting characters who become more developed over the course of the series. Tenma's friend, Mikoto Suo, runs a kenpo dojo, where class representative Haruki Hanai trains. There is also Akira Takano, a mysterious and perceptive girl who leads a double life. Tenma's friend Eri Sawachika ends up throwing a complication into the main love triangle. Tenma's younger sister, Yakumo Tsukamoto, also is focused on during the series. And as the story progresses, more characters are introduced into the relationship web.

School Rumble is a fun and light-hearted anime series, and would probably be enjoyed by viewers who like romantic comedies involving high school students, as well as by viewers who enjoy "slice of life" stories. Personally, I would recommend School Rumble to anime viewers who are 15 or 16 years of age and older.
