Cowboy Bebop Remix Volume 6

Cowboy Bebop Remix Volume 6
The Cowboy Bebop Remix Volume 6 DVD features the 23rd through 26th episodes of the series.

In these episodes we see the crew of the Bebop trying to track down the mastermind of a new religious cult, Faye and Ed find links to their pasts that cause them to leave the Bebop, and Spike and Julia are finally reunited. I have to applaud the Japanese writers for writing Ed and Ein out of the series right before the final two episodes. With the tone and subject matter of the final two episodes, the characters of Ed and Ein just wouldn't have fit into the story. It also should be noted that Cowboy Bebop: The Movie fits in between episodes 22 and 23 ("Cowboy Funk" and "Brain Scratch").

When the main menu for this DVD comes up, it's just like the menu on the previous Remix DVD releases. The menu is animated and interactive, but the navigation on the main menu can be a little troublesome. However, once you access the sub-menus, the navigation is a lot easier.

Just like on the earlier Remix volumes, when you access the main menu, you can choose from the following options: you can choose to play the episodes, go into the setup menu, or watch the bonus features. In the setup menu, you can choose one of the following audio options: English Stereo, Japanese Stereo, English Dolby Digital 5.1, or Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1; in this menu, you can also choose whether or not you want to see the subtitles. I definitely appreciate this layout for the setup menu better than how the setup selections were done on the original DVD pressings of these discs.

For extras, this disc includes audio commentary for episode number 24 ("Hard Luck Woman") with Megumi Hayashibara (the voice actor for Faye Valentine) and Aoi Tada (the voice actor for Ed). There are also trailers for other Bandai DVD releases (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eureka Seven, and Gundam Seed Destiny), as well as the DVD credits.

If you only want the episodes and really don't care about bonus features or remixed audio, then the original pressing of Volume 6 will be sufficient. However, if you want more bonus features, remixed audio, and a better-looking menu, then you might prefer the Volume 6 Remix DVD.

In order to write this review, I checked out a copy of this DVD through the King County Library System. My husband and I later purchased our own copy.
