From
the editor
I'm not fond of excessive freewriting
unless I have a solid outline as my foundation. Then I find I
can trust the words to form with a similar kind of magic that
freewriters talk about, but I have a much more usable product.
I almost consider my outline and notes to be almost as
extensive as others might freewrite a first draft. In an
upcoming article I'll tell you more about my planning
processes and how I reached the conclusion I did about
planning versus freewriting.

Freewriting
Writers who choose to freewrite believe that the magic of the story occurs because they don't attempt to control every detail. They like to allow the story to unfold to them as they write.
