Beer News:

What group has not brainstormed about how best to raise money for a worthy charity?  Take a lesson from the Lady Nelson Trafalgar 200 Grand Charity Auction held in Nelson, New Zealand this past weekend.

The practical "Dinners for Two" and boat cruises brought in a fair amount of interested bidders, but the thing that got the place jumping was a little case (12 bottles) of hand-crafted homemade ginger beer brewed by MP Nick Smith of Nelson.  The beer brought in a hefty sum and helped contribute to the $6,000 raised for the Nelson Region Hospice Trust and Nelson Cancer Society.

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Ipswich Dark Ale - Mercury Brewing Co. Inc., Ipswich, Massachusetts, USA

Style - American Brown Ale

Deep brown body, brushed hazy like nighttime madness, with a creamy, ample head and spotty lacing.  Aroma rises to the nose, filling it with malty notes of roasted caramel and fruity sweetness.  A yeasty fresh bread characteristic is touched with lemon citrus, pine, and fresh orange rind. Bitterness hovers above, but never overpowers the smooth mouthfeel.  Finishes round.

Cheers!
