Native American

October 23 2006 Native American Newsletter

Osiyo Everyone,

I have several things to talk about today. First of all a prayer request for the beloved Native American flutist and artist Terry Whetstone. He has been having serious health problems and cannot play or do any art at this time. He is having trouble getting around and has to use something to help him. Any encouragement and prayers are appreciated. http://www.terrywhetstone.com/ is his website if you would like to stop by and drop him a line of encouragement or see his work.

I am also waiting for information on an online program for Native Americans living with diabetes. It will allow participants to receive free diabetes self-management materials, free lab tests along with a workshop and study. There is no cost associated with the study but I will get it up as soon as the rest of the information is sent to me. In the meantime you can visit the website and read more about it. http://indiandiabetes.stanford.edu This is for Native American's with type 2 diabetes.

We also have a letter from Mr. Garland Walker in Texas. They have started a group trying to start having Pow Wow's and teach people more of their culture there. Mr. Walker stated that they plan to teach people how to Drum, Sing, Dance and other things to encourage more Native American activities in the area. If anyone would like to participate or help with the cause you can contact them below.

Hello,

Please put the information on our Native American Council in your paper. We are called NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURAL COUNCIL; we are located in Beeville Texas. Anyone can contact Me at 361-542-4061 or Marsha At 361-354-3268 or Marchetta at 361-358-5556. or use my address below my name. We meet every month and are planning a Small or Benefite Pow-wow. We need Drumers, singers and Dancer or anybody that would like to help. Anybody can join. If their not Native American, all they have to do is care about the culture and help want to keep it alive.

Thank You
Garland Walker

We also received the following on the historial Native American word search feature at Evolution Publishing. This could be very beneficial to those studying this topic.

Evolution Publishing is pleased to announce that our searchable database of

is now available for free use.

In the past, this database had been available by subscription only, but
we've now decided to open up the search functions, atlas, and custom lexicon
builder to the public for free. It's available here:
