According to a Department of Labor (DOL) Website press release for week ending 11/22/08, the number of actual initial claims increased from 324,047 in 2007 to 606,877 at the same time this year.
The number of seasonally adjusted, initial unemployment insurance claims decreased by 14,000 from figures reported the previous week.
