Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

During the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries, Great Britain developed a dark style of beer, much like an IPA, but with greater fullness of body, chocolate characteristics, and an alcohol content that could withstand long voyages at sea, particularly into the Baltic regions of the world.  Czars in Imperial Russia became enamored with this style of beer, and it became known as Russian Imperial Stout.

Catherine the Great applauded it as her favorite beer and, due to her reputation for having an insatiable sex drive, it became known as an aphrodisiac beer. So, grab yourself a Russian Imperial Stout and celebrate the season with your favorite squeeze.

As a winter warmer, serve Russian Imperial Stout in a brandy snifter while you delight in its huge head, flavors of dark chocolate, and warming characteristics.

A perfect choice as a winter warmer or an after dinner sipper!

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

A blonde returned home from work and was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She called the police immediately to report the crime. The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the channels and a K-9 unit patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out onto the porch. The sight of the cop and his dog made her shudder. She put her face in her hands as she sat down on the steps and began moaning.

"What's the moaning all about, ma'am?" asked the officer. The blonde replied, "I come home to find all my possessions stolen, so I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a blind policeman!"

Wynkoop Brewing Company,  Denver's first brewpub and one of the nation's most respected microbrewing establishments, has begun its search for the 2006 Beerdrinker of the Year.

The annual contest seeks and honors the most passionate, knowledgeable beer lover in the United States.

Wynkoop is now seeking "beer resumes" from the nation's most beery men and women. Resumes must include each entrant's beerdrinking philosophy and details highlighting their passion for beer. Resumes should provide evidence of the entrant's understanding of beer, its history, and its importance to civilization.

Resumes must be received by Wynkoop by December 31, 2005.

This year Wynkoop is increasing the winnings for the title, and expanding its search to include the nation's leading brewpubs and America's best beer bars.

The 2006 Beerdrinker of the Year wins free beer for life at Wynkoop Brewing Company, and $250 (up from the previous amount of $100) of beer at their local brewpub or beer bar.

The hometown beer spot of the winner gets a spiffy plaque ID-ing the establishment as the home of the 2006 Beerdrinker of the Year. They also get the pride of being the quaffing home of the nation's greatest beer lover.

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Style:  Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Slightly ruddy, scarlet-chestnut body glows beneath a fluffy, light bone head.  Rum, cherries, plums, raisins and deep malt tones rise to the nose. Rum and alcohol wash over your lips, while deep fruit flavors of wild cherries, raspberries and plums captivate your tongue.  Body is chewy, infused with a ginger and anise background.  Light bitter complexity adds to the refreshment.

Carbonation is lively - foaming bubbles run circles in your mouth and jump down your throat in joyful celebration.  A spectacular beer to share with friends!
