Beer Fox Tip of the Week:
The Allentown Brew Works, along with the City of Allentown, and Dan's Camera
City, and Northampton Community College's New Choices program, want to find
and honor at least 50 Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, Rosie the Riveters who replaced soldiers who served in World War II. These women shared the war effort by replacing soldiers who went off to war in manufacturing plants like Bethlehem Steel, Consolidated Vultee, and Allentown's local silk mills.
The Allentown Brew Works will host a luncheon on April 5, 2008 to honor these local Rosies.
If you can lead the Rosie effort to any present-day Rosies, please contact:
· Maryann Haytmanek at New Choices, 610-861-5350
· Tara Prelovsky at Allentown City Hall, 610-437-7350
· Mike Fegley at the Allentown Brew Works, 610-433-7777
Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:
Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune.
One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away.
"I may look like just an ordinary man," he said to her, "but in just a few years, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars."
Impressed, the woman obtained his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother.
Women are SO much better at estate planning than men.
BeerNews:
Matt Venzke of Yorktown, Virginia won the 2008 National Beerdrinker of the Year title at Wynkoop Brewing Company on Saturday, February 23, 2008. A standing-room-only crowd watched as Venzke competed against fellow finalists J Mark Angelus of Oregon and Richard Pedretti-Allen of Texas.
Venzke portrayed more than one note of brilliance during the competition, in which questions from seven Finals Judges had the contestants displaying the height of geekdom...and to a beer lover, that's honorable! When asked what he is doing to get around the current ban on carry-on beer for US air travelers, Venzke cited an upcoming effort to petition US brewers to start packaging beer in 3-ounce portions - wink-wink!

Craft Beer of the Week Award
Stone 06.06.06 Vertical Epic Ale - Stone Brewing Company, Escondido, California, USA
Style: Belgian Strong Dark Ale, 8.66 % ABV
So deep, so dark, as if coming from the depths of hell - walnut brown with glowing garnet hues, and a sticky bleached-molasses head. The malty, yeasty aromas seduce you. You feel as if this she-devil is pulling you into a field of dark fruits, apples, bananas, and spices. Once there, her flavors of fruit and malt roll across your tongue. Add chocolate malt, brown sugar, florals and pepper, while the alcoholic warmth slowly envelopes you. It pulls at you in waves, forcing you to concentrate on the mantra that lays before you. Light creaminess holds your attention - a hypnotic splendor, as you give in to the gentle sinfulness.
Cheers!
