Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

If you know any wine drinkers, you may find them to be stubborn about the idea of sampling beer.  Here are some recommendations from Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter, that will match their taste for wine with a comparative selection of beer:

Dry white: an authentic, hoppy Pilsner.

Gewürztraminer: a spicy, malty Vienna-style lager, or a darker Munich-style lager.

Champagne: a wheat beer.

Blush Zinfandel or pink champagne: a framboise (raspberry beer).

Cabernet Sauvignon: a fruity English-style ale, or an oaky American India pale ale.

Pinot Noir: a richer Scottish or Belgian ale.

Fino sherry: a lambic.

Amontillado sherry: a porter or dry stout.

Port: a dark Trappist ale, with some bottle-age.

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

The world's most avid football fan, a blonde, had arrived early at the stadium for the most-talked-about game between her beloved Philadelphia Eagles and their arch enemy, the Dallas Cowboys, only to realize that she had left her ticket at home. Not wanting to miss any of the first quarter, she went to the ticket booth and got in a long line for another seat. After an hour's wait she was just a few feet from the booth when a voice called out, "Hey, Linda!"

She looked up, stepped out of line and tried to find the owner of the voice, but met with no success.

Then she realized she had lost her place in the line, and had to go back to the end of the line and wait all over again.

After she had purchased her ticket, she was thirsty, so she went to buy a beer. The line at the concession stand was also very long, but since the game hadn't started she decided to wait. Just as she got to the window, a voice called out, "Hey, Linda!"

Again the blonde tried to find the voice and got out of line as she wandered looking for the owner of the voice. But no luck. The blonde was very upset as she got back in line for her beer.

Finally she had her beer and took her seat, eager for the game to begin. As she waited for the kickoff, she heard the voice calling, "Hey, Linda!" once more.

Furious, She stood up and yelled at the top of her lungs, "My name isn't Linda!"

Beer News:

The $3.4 billion merger between Canadian Molson and U.S. Adolph Coors has been approved by a Canadian court this week, with the final transaction expected to take place on February 9th.  The new Molson Coors Brewing Company will be ranked 5th worldwide in terms of sales.  Raise a toast to a grand accomplishment!

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Redhook ESB, Portsmouth Brewery and Cataqua Public House, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA

Style - Extra Special Bitter

This is an Extra Special Bitters with a rich, copper color and a complex balance between hop bitterness and sweet toasted malt.  A full-bodied brew with a smooth, round finish.
