Imported Designs of Tatting Book #77 The Spool Cotton Co. ©1936
cover Imported Designs of Tatting #77, 1936)

<p align=I have been puzzled about this booklet over the years. It has a colorized cover but all black and photos in it. It has 20 pages. There are 67 patterns without instructions and no double stitch counts at all! There is a 3-pg tutorial on how to tat and a comparison chart of finished tatted pieces showing the results of different size threads. It advertised J.P.Coats Tatting Cotton and Clark's ONT thread, so it was prepared before those two entities merged.

Some of the patterns in this book appear in many other booklets. I am reminded particularly of the 1917-ish booklet, "Die Schiffchenarbeit." It, too, was photos only, no directions. However, this lack of directions is not a problem for today's tatter.

With a clear photo and a numbered diagram, the tatter can recreate all the patterns easily. Try these out.

If you are interested in having your tatting showcased here on BellaOnline.com, you are most welcome to tat a new model for these vintage patterns. This book may be found online although not always as a free download.

Additional patterns are being diagramed and modernized. These patterns will be added to this list as they are finished. The most notable changes in the patterns come from the introduction of the split ring and split chain to climb out from the center of pieces or climb from row to row without cutting the thread.
