I make it a point to read the Bible at least once a day. But most often I read passages that go above my head. The many genealogies, laws, names and places make my Bible reading vague. A huge reason for this is because I tend to read the Bible like I would any other book, without realizing that the Bible was written several thousand years ago by different authors, each with a unique viewpoint and writing style. Though there are a number of easy to comprehend translations of the Bible to enhance understanding, I realize that I must also gear up to get the most from the Bible by actually finding out ‘How’ to read the Bible meaningfully. In my quest to do just this, I landed with ‘Understand Your Bible’, a handy guide to get past the major hurdles that prop up in Bible reading. This easy to afford book helped clear out my mind and has prepared me to read the Bible effectively. This week I’ve penned down my review of ‘Understand Your Bible’ for you.
Understand Your Bible – Book ReviewI remember learning a song in Sunday school that said, “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back…” Maybe you’ve sung this familiar chorus as well. This week’s Lenten devotion is a warning on looking back on a Christian’s deadly enemy, sin. Not only does sin separate us from God, but also blinds us and steals away the most precious gift from God to us, eternal life. Read on and remember, no turning back!
