Ellen Michaud, author of Blessed: Living a Grateful Life, has poured small, exquisite blessings into my life. Her book is bursting with vivid pictures of life in rural Vermont. But as engaging as that is by itself, there are richer depths to explore in this beautiful little volume.

From my heart to yours

I watched a robin tug a whale of a worm out of my backyard this morning. The spongy turf is newly devoid of snow, and though a few patches remain, I do believe my crocuses should be popping up any day now. Today’s list includes “buy pea seed”. That’s been on my list for awhile, but I just couldn’t find the motivation while snow continued to fall, and stay. What fell last night is already melted, and I feel sure the shady patches will shrink away to nothing today. Do I sound like I’m trying to convince myself? Well, that’s so. Maybe I’d better read another few pages of Mrs. Michaud’s book, to remind me to savor the blessings of each day, even at the rag-tag end of winter.
