Greetings everyone!

It's a damp spring afternoon today, but the Robins and Bluejays don't seem to mind. It's been a chirping symphony with every scent across the fields lofting through the open windows.

To counter some of the chill by this evening, I've been hard at work making fresh loafs of bread pairing with a California Medley Cheddar Soup, asparagus and a soft fruity Merlot. If you'd like to try this wonderful bread along with me, the recipe is below. Enjoy!


Soft Hearth Bread

1 cup warm water
2 tsp yeast
2 T sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup Semolina or all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 T Crisco (Olive oil or vegetable oil)

In a bread machine or bowl place the warm water and sugar in the bottom and sprinkle the yeast on top and wait for approx. 7-10 minutes. Add the flour salt and crisco. Set the machine to dough cycle or work by hand until it's no longer sticky adding a touch more flour if necessary. Let rise for 1 1/2 hours in a covered greased bowl if working by hand. Punch dough down and break into 3 separate portions for french bread style loafs or place into a greased bread pan. You can refrigerate any remainder dough or freeze for later use.

Bake 15-18 minutes at 350.
